Other Wildlife Sightings

Apart from the wildebeest Migration season, there are other iconic wildlife that have remained a constant attraction for visitors throughout the year.

This include a) Brood of 5 Cheaters; brothers who have survived and are now iconic in the Mara. The cheetahs are two sets of brothers (3 & 2) that joined up at a young age. Despite three of them have died through fights and Natural courses, this male cheetah’s coalition has become well known due to the unusually large coalition size and the many pictures and films of them seen across the media, and for their might of going for big prey like Gnu’s, Topis and zebras just like what the lions do. The five cheetahs have occupied a territory between Hammerkop areas in the Western side of the Maasai Mara to Olare orok conservancy an area equivalent to 100 sq. Kilometers. b) Lions:- The Maasai Mara is famous for the wildebeest migration but Four lions coined in the reserve as the “The Four Musketeers” were part of the attraction that bring tourists to the Mara throughout the year. Their name is coined from the principal characters in the Alexandre Dumas novel ‘The Three Musketeers’ and its sequels once D'Artagnan is added as the fourth musketeer. In addition to these lions and another one lion and his sons dabbed the Notch notoriously dominated the landscape for a decade. Forget about the Mapogo coalition in South Africa’s Kruger National Park, the Notch coalition was the stuff of folklore. a zebra foal with a dark coat and white polka dots was spotted in the reserve causing ecstasy among both local and international photographers. c) Home of rare sightings;- It is the Mara that a foal that was Knicknamed Tira’s sir name of a tour guide who saw it, with an odd coloration could be the first recorded observation in the Mara and became the center of focus in September 2018, dwarfing the wildebeest migration daily crossing of the Mara River. In October the same year, the reserve again came under focus after another rare zebra foal was spotted at the Mara triangle South West of the reserve bordering Tanzania. The golden-coloured baby zebra elicited a lot of reactions from social media platforms, three weeks after the polka-dotted zebra was spotted in the same reserve. The rare ‘blonde’ zebra, just like the ‘darker’ one received attention from internet users, tour guides and international tourists who were quick to point out their uniqueness. Through out the year there are abundant of wildlife including the big five including buffalos, Elephants and rhinos.
